Installing Clout Software
Advanced users may like to refer to the Advanced instructions below.
Before you can use Clout, you need to have a number of things on your computer. One of the main prerequisites is that you have Microsoft Outlook 2003 software installed, as Clout runs inside Outlook.
There are a few other pieces of software that are required, but our installer setup.exe will help you install them for you if you do not have them already.
- Start by downloading all the files noted in our Download website page to a folder on your computer;
- To install Clout successfully, you need to be an Administrator user. Log on as Administrator to complete the rest of this procedure, or in some operating systems, like Windows XP, you can run the program 'as if' you were Administrator;
- Once you have all the files on your computer, run the setup.exe program by double-clicking on it;
- Setup will check that you computer has the required software on it before it can install Clout. Some parts of the installation may require an active internet connection, if some of the prerequisites are not installed;
- Once the installation has been completed, you can start Outlook 2003 as you normally would (after logging back in to your normal user account if necessary). The Clout toolbar will be available, normally as a separate floating toolbar;
- Now you are up-and-running - try our Getting Started page to get you going with Clout.
Installation for All Users
When installed using the methods above, Clout will be installed for all configured users on the computer. Please bear in mind that the licensing is 'per user' - meaning that you need a license for each named user who wants the power and convenience of Clout. See the License Agreement for more information.
Running 'As if' You were Administrator
If you use Windows XP, you may be able to run the installation as if you were the administrator, but without having to log into the Administrator account just to do that. Press and hold the shift key while you right-click the setup.exe program; this should bring up a context menu that has a second entry of 'Run as...'.
Click on 'Run as...' and you will be presented with a dialog to select which user you would like to run the program as (you will need to know the Administrator password for this, or have an administrator user help you at this stage):
Select the 'The following user:' option, and select Administrator if it is not already selected. Type the administrator password into the relevent field, and then click OK. The installation will then proceed as if it were being run by a user logged in as Administrator.
Installation for Advanced Users
Advanced users may wish to take control of the installation themselves.
The following table details the software prerequisites:
