Clout

Colophon

The name Clout was arrived at fairly easily from the acronym 'CL' for 'Command Line' and the abbreviation 'Out' for Outlook.

We also liked the meaning associated with 'Clout' of being a hard-hitter, having pull or influence. Here's what Webster's had to say of the meanings:

  1. dialect chiefly British : a piece of cloth or leather : Rag
  2. a blow especially with the hand; also a hard hit in baseball
  3. a white cloth on a stake or frame used as a target in archery
  4. Pull, influence <political clout >

Well, we'd never heard of meaning 1 before (it really must be a dialect word and we'd guess Yorkshire), but meaning 3, the archery target, lead us nicely to our approach for logo and graphic design for the product. We hope that we have written a product that gives you clout, and that keeps you on target.

Webster's Dictionary provided the meanings of the word clout.
